Formula E have announced the final tranche of races in the very modular Season 7 calendar, confirming that the season will finish with a run of four double headers in Mexico, New York, London and Berlin.
The Mexico round has moved 150km east of Mexico City, to a relatively obscure oval track called Autodromo Miguel E. Abed in the city of Puebla. Circuit Hermano Rodriguez, in Mexico City, which would normally host the race has been turned into a field hospital for COVID patients, prompting the shift.
Two other venues are back to being available as race tracks, having previously been COVID hospitals: the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook will once again be part of Formula E and the London ExCel centre, which had been set to host the Season 6 finale, has been confirmed as the location for the London round.
Sadly for Chilean and Moroccan fans, the Santiago and Marrakech events that had been scheduled after Monaco have been cancelled for Season 7, with the intention to return in Season 8 when fans are allowed back at races.
James Barclay, team principal of Jaguar Racing – who currently lead both the drivers’ and teams’ world championships, said that he was glad to see London back on the calendar. “For Jaguar Racing, it will be the first time in 17 years we have raced on ‘home soil’ and to do that in the heart of London is undoubtedly special for everyone. The majority of Jaguar Land Rover’s employees work in the UK and can’t wait to cheer on Sam and Mitch in front of a home crowd.”
